AYSO Updates - Byron Center AYSO 3.2.2025

Hello Byron Center AYSO Family,

Here are some updates regarding Byron Center AYSO, including the future viability of the program, and some information regarding this spring. There is a lot of information here, please take a moment to read through this very important email.

American Youth Soccer Organization is a volunteer run organization. From the Coaches on the field, and management staff, to the National Board of Directors, we are all volunteers. The AYSO Vision Statement is to provide world class world soccer programs that enrich children's lives. In order for us to do that the Byron Center community will have to come together to support the program with volunteering their time.

The Future
The long term future of Byron Center AYSO is in jeopardy. The leadership of the Region consists of myself as the Area Director temporarily filling the Role of Regional Commissioner, a Treasurer, and a Registrar that will begin with the 2025/2026 season. For a Region of this size there needs to be more people to help spread the work around.

Reading this you might think that because there are so many players there are others that will step forward to shape the future of the program. You cannot assume that someone else will do it. This is also a problem that we cannot throw money at. Just as your player's coach is a volunteer, the Region Board members are also volunteers. Byron Center AYSO has no paid staff.

Volunteers Needed
The positions listed below are still open without a confirmed volunteer. You do not need to have soccer experience to be a board member. The Referee Administrator does not need to be a Referee. They do need to be able to organize and manage a team of Referees, making sure they are trained and know where and when they need to be for games. Please take a moment and view the list of positions and let me know if you feel you'll be able to fill one of the roles.

Regional Commissioner
Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA)
Coach Administrator
Referee Administrator
Safety Director
Scheduler
Fields Manager
Purchaser
Digital Assets Manager

2025/2026 Season Registration
Open Registration for the Fall 2025/Spring 2026 season will not happen until/unless there are a sufficient number of board members for the Region.
Provided there are enough filled leadership positions filled Coach registration will open first. After Coaches have registered, player registration will open with enough roster spaces available for the number of coaches that are registered. After those roster spaces are filled the proper wait-list system will turn on. If more coaches register during player registration then more roster spaces will open.

Spring 2025 Dates
Game Day Saturdays will be; April 19, April 26, May 3, May 10, and May 17. No games on May 24.
We do not have access to Douglas Walker Park on May 31. The 5U-10U divisions will play games on Tuesday, May 27 or Wednesday, May 28. The 12U and 14U divisions will play away games on May 31.
We will have a picture day this spring, the date is to be determined.
