Byron Center AYSO Admin Update
Hello Byron Center AYSO members,
As the 2025/2026 season has been underway for a short bit, I am reaching out today with an update on the administration side of the region. As you may know the 2025/2026 season started with a whole new slate of volunteers on the Region Board that joined the Region Board in the spring. This dedicated group handles the management side of AYSO for our 600+ players, 100+ coaches, and 20+ referees.
At the moment I am filling three of the roles on the Region Board. As the Area Director I am tasked with stepping in when there is a vacancy in the Regional Commissioner position. There is currently one of the other 14 Regions in Area 8J that is without a Regional Commissioner. This does mean that I am filling that role as well for them.
All to say, now that Byron Center AYSO has gotten its feet back under itself it is time for me to pass the baton to three additional volunteers in Byron Center. The current board members work very well together and have hit it out of the park this season. The roles that need to be filled are Regional Commissioner, Referee Administrator, and Fields Manager.
Regional Commissioner
The role of the Regional Commissioner serving in the capacity of an AYSO Executive Member is overseeing the regional strategy, finances, volunteer recruitment, scheduling, Regional and National Rules and Regulations, Policies and Protocols, National Policies and Bylaws, Regional growth and most of all ensuring the program supports the AYSO Mission Statement of “Developing and Delivering a Quality Youth Soccer Program. The RC is not expected to do all the work of these items, but to ensure that the items are being completed by the board members of the Region.
After their appointment this person will attend an in-person training weekend for new Regional Commissioners. There is also the annual AYSO Expo weekend that regularly happens in February or March each year. As an Executive Member the RC is able to attend the AYSO National Annual General Meeting in May each year.
The Regional Commissioner is asked to commit to a three year term.
Referee Admin
This person is responsible for managing the group of Referees for the Region. This includes recruiting people to be Referees, verifying that they have registered, complete any required online or in person training, administering the Referee management software for the Referee schedule, and other duties as assigned by the Regional Commissioner.
Fields Manager
This person is responsible for making sure that the fields are ready to go on a weekly basis. This includes all aspects of field painting, recruiting volunteers to paint, maintaining the goals, working with Kent County Parks for turf issues.
You can read more about these roles at

Are you able to fill one of these roles? If so, reach out to me at

and we can have a chat.
Thank you all for your continued support of Byron Center AYSO,
